packaging reality

been really busy w de store. making earrings. thinking abt care packages for de customers. my packaging. as much as i like to do some well-designed sleek packaging, i have to be aware of my constraints. i avoid using plastic bags(duh!!). i used my old magazines and made paper bags.and ohh yah i am not a designer (jus ECD WW ;p). i have to rely on frens to help. they have been great. they are not charging me a single cent - jus yi tiao char siew and two packs of rice, and three sets dinner. hahahhahaa.

and seriously i dun want to spend too much $$ yet. till i finally made some.

even though everything now is handwritten, i kinda like it. reminded me when i was in primary sch. when i started my v own magazine. wrote a couple of stories and poems on a piece of foolscape and started selling to my classmates for 10 cents. kids are really sucker back then ;p

i am sure things will get sleekier. one thing for sure. i will try to include a handwritten note to people who love my things :)

elements and motion

am watching de oscars now. gosh i jus watched de coolest thing ever. de sound effect team. they are incredible. they are way much better than de hip-hop b-box punks. they are simply amazing. i really hope they will be around forever (instead of de duh digital media. cold and heartless and no soul).

can you imagine ... hey babe what do you for a living?? i am a sound effect person ... i create sounds of wind, car engine, shower and so on. hahahhahaha :)

ohhhh did you see de dance people interpretation of oscar and happy feet penguin?? this year oscar is good!!

my new baby

after my reunion lunch w de hong clan on sat (btw de food at coffee club taka sucks!!), ah gee, cuihong and i popped over to best where i got myself a spankin new canon printer!!

i been dying to get a new printer for de longest time. since i am back from australia, i have been using my sis hp deskjet 500 (which btw is 10 years old). i was amazed that printers prices are so good. i was toggling between epson and canon. i decided to go for de latter (i think i OD on de former at work *puke*).

now i wanna overwork it ... print tons of invoice, postcard, photos and stuff ;p hahahaha

angsty bread for angsty souls??

due to de store, its been awhile since i baked anythin for de people in de office. as most of us are in friggin holiday moods and angsty, i decided to bake good old comfy cranberry orange nut bread.

however de process of making this bread was torturous. de MPs were holding some CNY celebration dinner jus down my place - they were singing. chinese songs ... hokkien songs too!! it was terrible!! was so bad that i called pm to let him listen. i jus wanna get out of kitchen asap - thus i jus quickly add in de flour, baking powder ... in super speed stirring de mixture. de result - de bread turned out bigger than usual. and too much walnuts. and no much orange taste.

despite this, de bread was still finished up by de folks in de office. angsty bread for angsty souls??

supplies

after a sian day at work, nothing cheer me up better than supplies for de store!! i finally got my long awaited charms, glass beads from de people selling at etsy. i also went to good old chinatown and got gazillion charms, beads and so on.

b2 was in my office earlier de day, totally influenced me to go chinatown and grab more things. we concluded those places are evil. hahahhahaha ;p

this would mean more stuff over de weekend!!

i jus uploaded two new pieces onto etsy - vanity fair and cloud nine. got more stuff coming. waiting for my photographer to take pic. hehehehe :p

thank you all who helped to promote de store. as much as i would like to upload my stuff soon, i will do it slowly. if you notice, etsy stuff get updated really fast. to strategise, i will upload 1-2 items every alternate day to get some attention ;p yup scheming me.

ohhh good news for super duper girly people. i have asked b2 to join an oink production. so look out for these super duper girly stuff ok ...

happy lunar new year!

happy lunar year!! its de year of de piggy!! my fav animal!! hehehhehehe :)

i have been piggin out on bak kwa, cashew nut, pineapple tarts, kueh banggit ... now i am really as fat as a piggy.

my cousins jus came earlier. gosh my nieces and nephews are so much taller than me!! they made me feel so small. kinda weird to see people who are taller than you call you yee yee. got a call in de morning from my aunty and cousin (kristen mummy!!) in canada. all is well and my cousin complained that kristen is really evil ;p

we got two more days to go before goin back to work. so enjoy people!!

wacha

spent my valentine day at a tranquil little japanese restaurant - wacha. i read abt this place via chubby hubby and was immediately drawn by de dishes, ambience of de place.
since fish was keen on a "powerpuff" reunion, i recommended de place to her. of course, she was dying to try de place too :)

once i reached de place, its like someone home, so quiet. de waiters were so gentle when they talked to you. gosh no way in hell i can make much noise.

we ordered de set dinner as per recommendation. every dish was a delight. my favourite got to be the last dish - japanese fried rice. its crunchy and as you bite, subtle flavour started to ooze out. yummy!!

de company was good. de food was great. wacha is definitely de place that i will come again for some good alone time :)

mystic universe

mystic universe (US$12) is de first dangling earring that i made not using any charms. its also de hardest piece to make. i think i have trial and error many many materials. what i love about this piece is how de ethnic metal ball add a vintage touch to de elegant pearls - making it more fluid, more mysterious.

de first piece

this is de first pair of earring i made when i first started this hobby thingy!! this is a pure experiementing piece. de time taken to make this piece was not as long as i imagine. i was so happy with this piece i went on to make another two more pieces (eliza dolittle and de shining).

but it did take me damn long time to think of a name for this piece. finally i settled for de first piece (US$8) ;p DUH!! :)

eliza dolittle

this charming vintage-looking retro piece is dearly titled eliza dolittle. de name rings a bell? yup. its de main character in de play/ movie - my fair lady - played by audrey hepburn.

eliza dolittle (US$6) is made up plastic black, and metal brass beads. this piece looks expensive but its actally made up of pretty decent priced materials. jus like eliza. she looked elegant but she longed to be her old self - de flower girl :)

i absolutely love this piece for its vintage, retro style. yet it does not cost a leg and an arm ;p

cloud nine

this is definitely de chirpiest piece in my loop collection (so far). after making three pairs of brown, darkish loop earrings, i thought i needed to do something cheerful and fun. went off to good old jin long ... got new supplies and ta .. da ... de birth of cloud nine - making me high ... hehehhee :)

cloud nine (US$8) is made of coloured plastic beads (purplish, lilac) and silver metal balls. this piece is also made slight after new year. guess de festive mood rub off on my craft ;p

i thought i have figured out de perfect packaging for earrings. but but but. yn thrown me another idea today.

she was telling me how she like it when i wrote how i came up w de names for my stuff ... de inspiration behind each piece. it got me thinking - what if my buyer dun read my blog ... he/ she will never know de love/ pain that i go through. AHHHHH. now i have to rethink about my packaging ... to weave de little story in ... AHHHH i have to kill more trees!!

de shining

finally i can showcase my loop series.

this simple loop earring was de third pair that i have made when i first started making earrings. i was running out of ideas what to do w my supplies, was playing around and viola. wanted to call it de odd one out. but thought it was pretty weird.

since i have de ethnic looking silver metal ball shining bright against de antique gold-looking bead, i playfully decided to name this piece - de shining (US$8).

whoopee!!

(i am super depressed right now ... de only two things that made me happy are below).
this morning, pm showed me de pics he took for me over de weekend. they are so nice!! they made de pics that i have been taking so ugly. its like before after extreme makeover. i super duper happy w de results.

xl also showed me possible banner for etsy. finally she got de right style. jus abit more amendment here and there and it will be ready to go :)

so far so good ... keepin my fingers crossed ...

i have set up an etsy account and soon i will be selling my stuff there.

an oink production started off as hobby, to take my mind off work. as i started to do more and show them to people, they sang praises (i got kind friends!! ;p) and encouraged me to sell them. of course, LOF was super excited and told me to sell them on etsy.

so ... i decided to sell them on etsy ;p

i start to understand why b2 said its so difficult to create stuff after work - after all your brain juices were empty. i also understand why people price certain things so high - its original work people ... handmade!! i am not all out to earn million dollars - i jus wanna friggin cover supplies cost and do what i love.

at the same time, i am not goin to be some china factory and produce gazillion stuff. i set a rule - i will not produce more than five pieces of de same stuff. if you own vanity fair, there will be at max four other people in de world who have that piece (unless some dickhead bought de same charm and replicate de design ;p).

over de chinese new year break, i will beautify my little online store and post de stuff up. and also get the packaging things done too (in case really got people buy. hahahahhaa).

tea with de queen

another charm earrings. tea with de queen (US$12) - i love love love this teapot, and cup and saucer charm. the details on these tiny charms are unbelievable (sorry, my camera not power enough to take close up shot). once again, this pair is accompanied by swaroski pearls - bronze and brown - adding de elegant touch ... think de queen would love that.

this is de third pair of dangly that i have made last week. i actually bought this pair of heels charm when i first started this whole crafty thingy. i thought it was rather sex and the city, carrie bradshaw blah blah. thus i have named this pc - manolo (blahnik) - de shoes that were adored by carrie and gang, and perhaps de women in new york.

this is definitely one of my fav pair. however manolo will be given away to a fren tomorrow. sigh. its so hard to let go something you love.

anyway i will be looking for these charms soon and hopefully more manolo will be coming.

discovered samar (arab street) via bunny. its an arabic restaurant with great food at decent prices. of course de cute waiters help too :)

i always ordered their set lunch which is of great value. de portion is huge ... great for time when you are super hungry. i love de bread and dips. de bread is freshly made and de dips are so YUMMY!!

something simple

for de past two days, w de new supplies that i have bought at arab street ... i have big ambition that i am going to create something great, massive, whimsical, blah blah and so on.
in de end, i created three simple dangling earrings.

it was then i realised i am never a fan of complicated design. by looking at my collection of earrings, i always wear de simple ones. even de BIG earrings are v simple in design too ... they are jus big ;p as for de complicated ones ... errrr ... they are still around ... jus a bit dusty ;p

something for my sifu

this is my first pair of "girly" dangling earrings that i have made last nite. i have actually started last week. but due to a sick shoulder, i was in too much pain to continue.

i have finally finished this creation after an hour or so. my god ... making dangling earrings are so difficult. much tougher than loop ones. my stubby fingers were bruised. hehehehehhee.

i have named this pc - b2 - after de woman who taught me all she knows in jewellery making. and this pc will be one of its kind. i will not replicate it. i still have de butterfly charms (b2, i purposely go buy for u leh ;p) but i will do something diff. ohhh b2 is also accompanied by swaroski pearls in bronze (i think).

an oink production is my hobby blog. de blog will be abit of my life, my inspiration ... de things i love. hopefully i can make abit of $$ from showing off my craft.

2006, i started my baking madness. for 2007, i have just started to learn how to make jewellery - currently earrings. been buying lotsa supplies - 3 boxful to be exact. i also have a v good teacher cum good fren - b2 who so graciously taught me all she know. beside teaching me via msn, she also told me where to get supplies and encouraged me along de way :)

stuggart ballet

went to stuttgart ballet last nite. kindly sponsored by my good fren katherine. and of course, jane and i got really good seats :)

de event was sponsored by mercedes and citigroup. all de who-is-who were invited to the ballet. president nathan and wifey were there. saw sherry mah and her daughter. ohhh saw professor koh too (chubby hubby papa). and mrs lee (w mess-up hair) was there too.

ballet is not really my gig. but last nite show was really enjoyable (good seat helped too). the classic tale of romeo and juliet was gracefully acted (and danced) out. amazed by the strength and flexibility of de dancers.

one thing i have to say abt ballet and ballet dancers - even though people always comment that people who do ballet are v graceful and elegant, their bodies ... were so contradictory. they have no single ounce of fat on them. so muscular!!

anyhow de show was good. i love de ball dancing ... de costumes were great, de scene was so grand. also love de balcony scene too. dun i love romeo for being such a show-off by doing two chin-up and kissing juliet?? i lovin it :)
