peanut butter cookies

it has been awhile since i baked. wanted to make good old banana chocolate muffin. however was inspired by my recently acquired reese peanut butter cups, i decided to go ahead and bake some peanut butter cookies.

de recipe is from the magnolia bakery. despite being in ny before, i never tried de treats there. i always think they are famous for their cupcakes, which are not my cup of tea. i never can comprehend de need for de cream.

anyhow de cookies turned out lovely (fine. i burned 2 batches of cookies). its easy to make. friends love it.

gosh i really need to bake more often.

section 377a

i am not a v political person. really i am not that into politics. despite studyin in australia, exposed to all sorts of cultural practices and so on, i never felt incline to dabble or read about things happening around me.

however recently i was drawn to the repeal of section 377a. i read. i was touched. i signed.

sad to say. failed.

i just read the parliament report. i teared. i jus dun understand alot of things:
- who determined we are a conservative society?
- who determined what is a norm?
- what is wrong w lovin someone of the same sex?
- what is wrong w physical contact w someone of the same sex?
- who is majority and who is minority?

SERIOUSLY!!

i think what irks me the most is not about section 377a; its who de fuck determined who we are. how we think? what we do and so on.

what you see as norm is diff from me. all of us are unique. we have diff upbringings, exposed to diff things and so on. the way we analyse information is also diff.

i really hate it when someone else determines what category i belong to. seriously. go away.

ohhh BTW when you say someone is not minority, you are making that person a minority.

i wish i can support local ...

specifically local magazines. magazines targetted at (young or/and working) women. magazines supposedly filled w female-related articles and fashion. i have stopped buying them for the past few years. reason?? de content is weak.

perhaps its de taste of de majority of their target reader. i just cannot relate to the local magazines. i rather spend twice de amount and get magazines such as glamour, martha stewart living, real simple, marie claire, cosmo and so on. i have been faithfully gettin glamour for the past ten years. yes TEN years.

occasionally, i would get the magazines to check the "local" scenes. after i got them, i regret immediately. why ... you ask:
1) celebrity interviews are often purchased from other foreign sources. not locally conducted.
2) de articles inside gross me out. SERIOUSLY!! do i want to marry up?? do i fuckin care if some guy like to date some sweet young things!! and do i care abt extra-marital affairs?
3) i browse through de entire mag in an hour or less.
4) fashion items are beyond my budget.
5) fashion spread SUCKS. and to be honest. i find them ... lack of originality. straight from runway.

i find all these rather upsettin. some of the mags have been around for eon. i dun see improvements. i only found deterioration.

i really wish i can support local. i really do. i even dreamt abt oink being featured inside. but but but. sigh.

perhaps its me. i want features. i want people to care about others. i want people to support each other through the articles they write. teaching them about empowerment (marrying up is not empowerment). i want fashion spread to be practical. to be creative. to be wild. to be unexpected.

abit too much?? for now, i will still do de occasional buy. hope my luck will be good.

back from bangkok

yes i am back. its a hectic four days three nights. our schedule was v v tight. hahahhaa. so tight we decided to cancel our massage.

what scare me and my fren kat de most was de hotel. de hotel was abit too cheap. so cheap its frightening. its at least 1000 baht cheaper than most hotels in bkk. imagine our relieved faces when we saw our hotel was decent. nice beds. even got free mineral water!! next time, you wanna go bkk, book ibis siam. only 850 baht!!!!!!

we ate lotsa steamboat. do check out the sushi and steamboat buffet at centralworld. cheap and good. and their ice green tea is v yummy. hhahahaa. we have a bit of everything. lotsa shopping in de mall means we were not sticky and yucky. hahahah.

our highlight was definitely when we scored free jap melon (which costs S$30 per slice) at tsu-nami at jw marriot. we were waiting for one of the dishes we ordered. we got quite full and decided to cancel it. think de kitchen forgot and they tot we were pissed and offered us fruit platter. i seriously tot they will give us papaya/watermelon. they presented us w 600 baht melon!!! kat who is not a fan of fruits, ate everything up. sweeet.

of course how can any trip to bkk without dropping by chatuchak! as usual its hot and a sauna there. we stopped twice for drinks.

all in all de trip was good. it was pure shopping and eating. fat fat now!!

oink will be closed!!

yup yup. oink will be closed from 4-7 oct. i will be away to bangkok (again)!! this is my first personal, used-own-leave trip.

i have uploaded three new items - havent got a chance to blog it. will do so once i am back and with more updates too.

in de meantime dun miss me too much ...
